RECORD BREAKING RAINFALL AT GRANDFATHER MOUNTAIN

The record for the most rainfall in one day during the month of August was broken at the official US Weather Service reporting station located next to the Mile High Swinging Bridge on Grandfather Mountain.

From 8:00 a.m. August 26 through 8:00 a.m. August 27 a total of 8.5 inches of rain was recorded.

The previous record for the most rain during an August day was set August 9, 1970 when 6.08 inches was recorded.
